This page tracks Amazon bestsellers across Kindle and print formats, sourced from Amazon's Best Sellers Rank pages. Spotting Niches Worth Writing For

The most actionable signal is the combination of low BSR (high sales velocity) and high review count (proven audience), with multiple indie publishers competing. If a category's top 10 BSR slots are dominated by traditional Big Five imprints, it's harder for a new self-publisher to break in. If those slots include indie names, the niche is reachable. Sort by BSR ascending, filter to KDP-only, and skim the top results to identify these openings quickly.

Kindle vs. Print: Which Format to Target

Kindle ebooks have lower production cost (no printing) and higher royalty rates (up to 70% in the $2.99-$9.99 range), making them the typical entry point for KDP authors. Print-on-demand paperbacks layer on top — same manuscript, hardcover or paperback edition created automatically when an order comes in. Use the Print filter to study what works in physical formats, then decide whether to publish ebook-only or both.

What is KDP and how is it different from regular Amazon publishing?

What does BSR mean and is a lower number better?

BSR is Amazon's Best Sellers Rank — it ranks every product against everything else in its store (Kindle Store or Books). Lower is better: BSR #1 is the top-selling book in that store, while BSR #100,000 is well outside the bestseller lists. BSR updates roughly hourly and is a useful relative-popularity signal but does not directly translate to a sales count.

How do I find profitable Kindle book niches?

Start with 'Top KDP Self-Publishers' to see where indie authors are actually winning, then check 'New & Trending' for recent releases gaining traction (open-window niches). 'Hidden Gems' surfaces high-rated books with under-50 reviews — quality is proven but the attention is still up for grabs. Cross-reference with the category combobox to dig into specific sub-niches.

How accurate is the price data?

Prices are scraped from Amazon's product page at scrape time, which is updated regularly. Kindle prices on Amazon change frequently (countdown deals, regional differences, Kindle Unlimited inclusions), so treat the price column as a recent snapshot rather than the live price. Click through to Amazon to see what the book costs right now.

Why are some books missing publisher or page counts?

Indie Kindle titles often don't surface a publisher field on the Amazon product page — the data simply isn't there to scrape. This is more common with self-published Kindle books than with traditionally published print books. Missing fields render as '—' and are not filtered out, since the BSR and review signals are still meaningful.
