How much do Gumroad products actually make?
Earnings on Gumroad are steeply top-heavy. Only about 2.5% of products have a recorded sale, and while roughly 12% carry at least one rating (a rating requires a purchase), the vast majority never sell at all. Among products that do sell, the median one grosses only about $88, and more than half take in under $100 over their lifetime. Just 0.4% of all products clear $1,000. The revenue distribution above is the honest picture: a small band of hits earns most of the money while the long tail earns close to nothing. If you are deciding whether to build a digital product, plan for the median outcome, not the screenshot on someone's launch thread.
What should a digital product cost?
Gumroad is a low-price marketplace. The median paid product sells for just $7, and about two-thirds of everything is priced under $10. Around 10% of products are free and a further 25% are pay-what-you-want, so a big slice of the catalog is priced at or near zero on purpose, usually to build a list. The de-skewed average paid price is about $25 once a handful of junk placeholder prices are stripped out. If you are pricing a first product, the market has anchored buyers toward the sub-$10 band, and the price distribution above shows exactly where the mass sits.
Which digital product types earn the most?
Ebooks and simple digital files dominate the catalog by count, but they are not what earns per product. Courses post the highest median revenue among earners at about $154, and bundles roughly $209, versus about $35 for ebooks and $91 for the catch-all digital type. Memberships and subscriptions add recurring revenue but are a small slice of the market at under 2% of products. The takeaway for a would-be seller: the crowded, cheap formats are the hardest to stand out in, while higher-effort formats like courses and bundles clear more money on far less competition. The product-type breakdown above shows the trade-off between how common a format is and how much it tends to earn.
