How to Estimate Roblox Game Revenue
The standard formula for estimating Roblox game revenue is: Visits × Conversion Rate × Average Spend = Gross Robux. A game with 10 million visits, a 2% conversion rate, and 150 Robux average spend would earn 30,000,000 gross Robux. After Roblox's 30% marketplace fee, you keep 21,000,000 Robux. Converting through DevEx at $0.0038 per Robux gives you $79,800 USD. The conversion rate and average spend vary widely by genre — simulators and tycoons typically monetize better than social or obby games.
Roblox's 30% Marketplace Fee
Roblox charges a flat 30% marketplace fee on all transactions. Unlike Steam's tiered revenue split, Roblox's rate is the same regardless of how much you earn. This applies to game passes, developer products, UGC item sales, and donations in games like Pls Donate. When a player spends 100 Robux in your game, you receive 70 Robux. There are no volume discounts or reduced rates for top earners.
DevEx: Converting Robux to Real Money
The Developer Exchange (DevEx) program lets eligible creators convert earned Robux into real USD. The current rate is $0.0038 per Robux (updated September 2025). To qualify, you need a Roblox Premium subscription, at least 30,000 earned Robux, a verified email, and you must be 13 or older. Payouts are processed through Tipalti and take 2-3 weeks. Simulators and tycoons tend to earn the most per visit because their progression loops encourage repeated purchases. Social games have lower conversion but can compensate with very high visit counts. Use the genre dropdown in the calculator to auto-fill typical benchmarks for your game type.
Common Revenue Estimation Mistakes
- Confusing visits with unique players. Visits count every session, including repeat visits. A game with 1 million visits might have only 300,000 unique players. Revenue calculations should use visits since each visit is a monetization opportunity.
- Ignoring the 30% marketplace fee. All Robux earnings are subject to Roblox's 30% cut before you receive anything. If your game earns 1 million gross Robux, you only receive 700,000.
- Overestimating conversion rates. Most games convert 1-3% of visitors into paying users. Assuming 5%+ is unrealistic for the vast majority of experiences.
- Forgetting DevEx requirements. You need Premium, 30,000+ earned Robux, and must meet Roblox's terms of service. Purchased Robux cannot be cashed out — only earned Robux count.
