How Roblox Tax Works

Roblox charges a 30% marketplace tax on all transactions. This applies to game passes, developer products (in-game consumables), UGC item sales, and donations in games like Pls Donate. When a player spends Robux in your experience or buys your UGC item, Roblox keeps 30% and credits the remaining 70% to your account. For example, if you price a gamepass at 100 Robux, you receive 70 Robux after tax. The same applies to Pls Donate — if someone donates 100 Robux, the recipient gets 70.

DevEx Rates & Requirements

The Developer Exchange (DevEx) program lets eligible creators convert earned Robux into real USD. The current exchange rate is $0.0038 per Robux (updated September 2025, an 8.5% increase from the previous $0.0035 rate). To qualify, you need a Roblox Premium subscription, at least 30,000 earned Robux, a verified email, and you must be 13 or older. DevEx payouts are processed through Tipalti and typically take 2-3 weeks. Note that only earned Robux count — purchased Robux cannot be cashed out.

How the DevEx Calculation Works

To work out your real DevEx cash-out, subtract the 30% marketplace tax from your gross Robux, then multiply the remainder by the DevEx rate of $0.0038. For example, a game earning 1,000,000 Robux keeps 700,000 net after tax, which pays out as $2,660 USD through DevEx. The toggle above lets you apply or skip the 30% tax depending on whether your input is already net (what you see in your DevEx balance) or gross (total sales before Roblox's cut). If you just want a quick Robux-to-USD conversion without DevEx or tax math, use the Robux to USD converter.

Plan DevEx Cash-Out Targets in Reverse

Want to know how much Robux you need to earn for a specific USD payout? Enter your target dollar amount and the calculator works in reverse — factoring in the 30% marketplace tax and DevEx rate to show the gross Robux required. For example, cashing out $500 USD through DevEx needs roughly 187,970 gross Robux (131,579 net after tax). Useful for setting monetization goals on a new gamepass or UGC launch.

Estimate Total Game Revenue

This calculator converts a known Robux amount to USD. If you want to estimate how much your Roblox game could earn based on visits and monetization, use our Roblox Game Revenue Calculator instead. It estimates earnings from visit count, conversion rate, and average spend — with the same 30% marketplace fee and DevEx conversion built in.

Legacy vs New DevEx Rate — What You Need to Know

On September 5, 2025, Roblox increased the DevEx rate by 8.5% — from $0.0035 to $0.0038 per Robux. However, the old rate still applies to any Robux earned before that date. When you cash out, Roblox pays your old-rate Robux first at $0.0035, and only after those are fully paid out will new-rate Robux be cashed out at $0.0038. If you earned Robux both before and after September 5, 2025, your DevEx payout will be a mix of both rates. Our calculator uses the current $0.0038 rate, which applies to all Robux earned after the cutoff.

Common DevEx Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Confusing gross and net Robux. Gross Robux is your total before the 30% marketplace tax, net is what you actually receive. DevEx converts your net Robux — so 100,000 in total sales means your payout is based on 70,000, not 100,000.
  2. Thinking all Robux can be cashed out. Only earned Robux qualify for DevEx. Robux you purchased, received from gift cards, or got through promotional events cannot be converted to USD.
  3. Forgetting currency conversion fees. If you are outside the US, your bank or payment provider may charge additional fees on top of the DevEx payout, reducing the final amount you receive.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Roblox take from developers?
Roblox takes a 30% marketplace fee on every transaction in its ecosystem — game passes, developer products, UGC items, and Pls Donate–style donations. If a player spends 100 Robux, you receive 70 Robux. The same 30% applies whether you're selling a gamepass, a UGC shirt, or receiving a donation, so you can plan earnings by always calculating the net at 70% of gross.
What is the current Roblox DevEx exchange rate?
The Developer Exchange (DevEx) rate is $0.0038 USD per Robux as of September 5, 2025 — an 8.5% increase from the previous $0.0035 rate. Roblox pays out old-rate Robux first when you cash out, so if you earned Robux both before and after the cutoff your payout will be a mix of both rates. This calculator uses the current $0.0038 rate, which applies to all newly earned Robux.
What are the Roblox DevEx requirements?
To cash out through DevEx you need a Roblox Premium subscription, at least 30,000 earned Robux, a verified email, and you must be 13 or older. Only earned Robux qualify — purchased Robux, gift card balances, and promotional Robux cannot be cashed out. DevEx is available in most countries where Roblox operates and ID verification is required before your first payout.
How long does Roblox DevEx take to pay out?
DevEx payouts are processed through Tipalti and typically take 2–3 weeks from when you submit a request. Processing can take longer during holidays, DevEx winter breaks, or high-volume periods. You can track the status of your payout in the DevEx portal — and once approved, the money is sent via your chosen payment method (usually PayPal or bank transfer).
Do you pay income tax on Roblox DevEx earnings?
Yes — DevEx earnings are taxable income in most countries. In the US, Roblox issues a 1099 tax form if you earn over $600 in a calendar year, and you're responsible for reporting DevEx earnings to your local tax authority (including UK self-assessment and equivalent schemes elsewhere). Consult a tax professional for advice specific to your country and situation — this calculator shows pre-income-tax earnings only.
